Cunningham House residents enjoy feeding the birds, and watching their to-ing and fro- ing from their rooms. However, our poor little birds are lucky to get a look in as they have big competition in the shape of humongous squirrels and pigeons, who guzzle the feeder empty in a flash. Many a conversation has been had over coffee time about how to see off these greedy guzzlers so that the little ones have a chance. Then one morning, one of our residents proudly announced that her family
had bought her a gift which was the perfect solution to deterring these guzzlers, and was over the moon that it worked! This gift was a rather large water pistol, with which our 94-year-old lady has perfected the art of pro- jecting a light spray of water* at the squirrels to send them on their way! We certainly have a laugh (or three) in this house! Lucy
* Note: no squirrels were harmed in Operation Beat the Guzzlers; they just experienced some very rainy days for the sake of the little birds being able to fill their tummies!
